Nymph Lake is still covered by several feet of snow and ice in the middle of May, 2008. Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), founded by act of the US Congress in 1915, contains 72 named peaks above 12,000 feet in elevation including the tallest mountain peak in Colorado - Longs Peak at 14,259 feet. The park, located next to Estes Park, CO, has five visitor centers and is traversed by the Trail Ridge Road (US highways 34 and 36). Over 3 million visitors travel to the park annually to experience diverse mountain terrain, wildlife and recreation.
